Table tennis mixed doubles CWG 2022: Mixed Results

India beat England 3-2 in mixed doubles quarterfinals table tennis match . Achanta Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula beat Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho in deciding fifth game .

In the deciding fifth game of the mixed doubles quarterfinals table tennis match between India and England, it was 9-9.Emotions were high.Achanta Sharath Kamal, 40, a veteran of many wars, decided to calm things down.He and his young partner Sreeja Akula met for a long chat, and that was all he needed.

Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho were defeated by the Indian pair 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9.Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran were playing on a different table, and it was heartbreaking.They couldn't maintain their temper and fell to Malaysia's Javen Choong and Karen Lyne 2-3 (10-12, 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11).This was Batra's second failure after missing out on a podium finish in the womens team competition.

Since then, it was more of a catch-up game for them, and the star pair did miserably well.Batra and Akula met in the singles quarterfinals earlier in the season, in a different way.While Batra, the reigning CWG champion, thrashed Australias Jee Minhyung 11-4, 11-8, 11-6, 12-10 to advance to the last eight, Sreeja had to dig deep to defeat Wales Charlotte Carey 4-3.The 24-year-old CWG debutant had a rough start and lost the first game 8-11.

However, she lost ground again in the next two (12-14, 9-11), when she was eliminated.She fought well to make it 3-3 by winning her next two games (11-4, 15-13), and clinched the final game 12-10 for a spot in the quarterfinals.In a womens singles Round 16 match, Reeth Tennison, another Indian in the fray, fell to Singapores Feng Tianwei 1-4 (2-11, 4-11, 11-9, 3-11, 4-11).Sharath and Sathiyan advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles with a win over Bangladesh's Bawm Ramhimlian and Ridoy Mohutasin Ahmed in straight games 11-6, 11-1, and 11-4.
