HYDERABAD: Faced with challenges in implementing flagship schemes such as 2BHK housing and the distribution of three-acre land to Dalits, the Telangana government is now focusing on rapid regularization of encroached government land up to 125 square yards by poor. With assembly elections coming early, the government is giving top priority to the promotion of regularisation of encroached land under GO No.58.District collectors have been told to complete the process by the end of this month and begin with delivering pattas to the eligible residents as soon as possible.

According to senior officials, the most 40,000 applications have been submitted from Medchal Malkajgiri district.According to official reports, the government has initiated regularization of land on a war-footing basis because it is relatively easy for the government to implement the initiative compared to the other two schemes.Due to a lack of land, a budget deficit, and difficulties in selecting beneficiaries, the 2BHK housing project was unable to be implemented at many locations, and deadlines could not be met.Beset with difficulties, the government announced that it would give grants to those who want to build a house on their own property.

For that matter, CM KCR said he never promised to implement the program. The state government will not have to invest any funds on GO 58.It is only regularizing the public land, which has been exploited by the poor for decades. It would not only benefit thousands of poor people, but it would also benefit the government in the upcoming elections.

On GO 58, chief secretary Somesh Kumar met with collectors and fixed a deadline for implementation.Officials from the Revenue Department announced that the government has issued two GOs.Although GO 58 allows regularization of projects that were built on encroached government land for up to 125 square yards, GO 59 allows for regularization of encroached government lands for a penal fee.According to a district collector, regularization would be only carried out after thorough field inspection of houses was carried out.
