Chandigarh: The election of AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanour assembly segment of Patiala district in Punjab has been scrutinized by the Punjab and Haryana high court, which gave the MLA a warning on Monday. In the aftermath of an election petition filed by SADs Harinder Pal Singh Chandumajra, the petitioner sought directions to postpone Harmeets' election as an MLA in the 2022 state assembly elections on the grounds that he concealed crucial facts regarding the pendency of criminal charges against him in his nomination form submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI).Chandumajra argues that Harmeet deliberately concealed the pendency of his FIR from the affidavit submitted to the EC along with his nomination paper in his plea.Harmeet was declared a proponent of violence by the time he was introduced, according to petitioners' counsel Dheeraj Jain, but the same information was deliberately and intentionally concealed in the official documents.

The suit was registered on the restraining order filed by a returning officer, alleging that Harmeet did not disclose the criminal case against him in his nomination papers filed on January 31, 2022.Harmeet won by a margin of around 49,000 votes over his nearest rival Chandumajra in the state assembly elections held in February 2022.Congress' Harinder Pal Singh Mann came in third place with just over 25,000 votes.
