The government changes the rules to allow SEZ units to operate from home more easily.

The Department of Commerce (DoC) has updated SEZ rules to liberalize Work From Home for SEZ units . WFH can be provided to up to 100% of all employees of the SEZ unit beginning on December 31, 2023 .

New Delhi, India, December 10: The Department of Commerce (DoC) has updated SEZ rules to liberalize Work From Home for SEZ units, according to a Commerce Ministry release.Following notification of Rule 43A and the publication of Instruction in August, DoC received further inquiries from NASSCOM as well as units seeking more flexibility in the WFH facility, the matter was revised in DoC in consultation with stakeholders, according to a Commerce Ministry release.The old system of grant-based education has been reformed into an intimation-based system, it said, and WFH can be provided to up to 100% of all employees of the SEZ unit beginning on December 31, 2023.For units that already receive WFH under a new system, notice may be sent by email until January 31, next year.

The decision was made after the Department of Commerce had carefully considered the industry's specific needs and the benefits that such a facility could bring to the cities.
