The government is working on a new catastrophe management plan.

Odisha has been the scene of 16 natural disasters in the past 11 years . The state government is developing a block, gram panchayat, and village-level disaster management plan .

Bhubaneswar (Bhubaneswar): The state government began the process of developing a block, gram panchayat, and a village-level disaster management plan to combat natural disasters.While the plan is being prepared in accordance with the recent amendment to the Panchayati Raj Act, the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) is providing technical assistance in preparing the disaster management plan.To help prepare the scheme, the OSDMA has been facilitating training programs for district and block officials.We now have a state and district-level disaster strategy, with which we can brace for any crisis, including cyclones.

More than 40,000 volunteers at village level will be trained in basic disaster preparedness skills, while the OSDMA will also prepare their database to use it during disasters.These volunteers will be trained about their roles before disasters, as a result of disasters, and after-disaster recovery and restoration.In the first stage, the state government has decided to create a disaster prevention scheme for 22 disaster-prone blocks in coastal areas.Over the past 11 years, Odisha has been the scene of 16 natural disasters, which have wreaked havoc on the public and private property.
