New Delhi, December 9: Former Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave Priyanka Chaturvedi and her party leaders a deadline to resolve the issue of Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute, saying, We knew our buses had been damaged and our people were unable to cross the road.So this atmosphere would result in violence and breakdown of law and order in Bommai, Chaturvedi said.We have asked him (Amit Shah) to ensure stability and ensure that there is no law and order issue in Karnataka as well as in Maharashtra, she said.Shah and a delegation of MPs from the MVA parties (led by Uddhav Thackeray, the NCP, and the Congress) met for a meeting on the Karnat On Tuesday, Bommai appealed to his Maharashtra counterpart, Eknath Shinde, to fight the border dispute issue legally as it is currently being prosecuted.
The long-running Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute began in 1953, when the Maharashtra government opposed to the inclusion of 865 villages, including Belagavi, in the north-western and north-eastern regions of Karnataka.Following the passage of the Maharashtra State Reorganization Act, 1956, the Maharashtra government demanded that the Karnataka border be reformed.Both states formed a four-member committee, but the Maharashtra government had offered to shift 260 villages that were mostly Kannada-speaking, but it was turned down by Karnataka.Now, both Karnataka and Maharashtra governments have petitioned the Supreme Court to expedite the matter now pending.
