Guwahati: The Army investigation into the killing of 13 people in Nagalands Mon district in December 2021 is over, and authorities are reviewing the report before taking any disciplinarian measures, according to Eastern Command GoC-in-C Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita.Six villagers of Oting in Mon district were killed when they were attacked by a group of 21 special forces, mistaking them for insurgents.One of the commandos was also killed by the villagers.An additional civilian was killed by Assam Rifles fire the next day at Mon town when a mob attacked the units camp, and the Army commander said that disciplinary action will be taken against those who have committed the attack, irrespective of their rank or who he is.

The Army chief and my predecessor in Eastern Command had earlier stated that this incident at Oting was a case of sloppy identity and judgment.But that does not mean that we have any discretion to sweep things under the carpet, according to Lieutenant Gen Kalita.The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, which has been in place in the northeastern state for decades, provides some operational assistance to the forces operating in rough terrain, but the provision was not universal.
