New Delhi, December 9, 2018: The Supreme Court recommended that the appointment of ad-hoc judges in the High Courts be simplified and asked Attorney General R Venkataramani and Senior Advocate Arvind P Datar to brainstorm and investigate a less time-consuming procedure for ad-hoc judges in the High Courts, according to a bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who noted that senior advocates are primarily not willing to take up permanent positions at the bench, Consequently, it asked the counsel to investigate the case and made recommendations in this regard.The counsel advised the court to relook at the subject of the Memorandum of Procedure, which includes a demand for ad hoc judges if the vacancies are greater than 20 percent of the sanctioned number, the cases in a particular category are pending for more than five years, and more than ten percent of the backlog of pending cases are more than five years old, according to the Supreme Court.
