Panaji: Since 2020, the number of female sex trafficking cases in Goa has decreased. In addition, in the last four months, not even a single girl convicted of sex trafficking has been rescued in Goa by the police.Since 2017, 171 cases of woman trafficking have been recorded, with the most recent figures coming in June 2022.Out of 70 people rescued by the police in North Goa, 43 in South Goa, and 58 in the crime department, there have been only 40 cases since April.

According to Arz director Arun Pandey, the law-enforcement departments must explain why they could not save even a single individual victim in the last four months. He said that Covid is one of the factors that has hampered the state's number of rescue operations. The number of girls rescued in India has also increased dramatically.According to Pandey, some of the victims are living in small towns and malls as they are the only breadwinners in their family. Many people lost jobs as a result of Covid, many of whom were unable to work.

The situation exposed them to sex trafficking, according to Goa police. He said that the number of victims would increase during the forthcoming tourist season if goa police doesnt send a strong warning to traffickers by rescuing girls.According to Pandey, smugglers are mainly targeting local girls, as well as girls from Maharashtra and Karnataka. He said that the decline in human trafficking cases was attributed to a decrease in tourism activities and police being stationed in Covid roles.
