Three priests from the Chidambaram Nataraja temple were detained for child marriage.

CUDDALORE (CUDDALORE)-On Thursday, the Cuddalore all-woman police arrested a 23-year-old dikshithar (priest) on suspicion of marrying a minor teen.The marriage took place at the Chidambaram Nataraja temple about a year ago.His father and the younger girls' father were arrested on suspicion of arranging the child marriage.Pasupathy Dikshithar, the minor child's mother, his father, Ganapathy Dikshithar, 40, and the girls' father, Somasekar Dikshithar, 40, have been identified.

The juveniles were arrested under sections 9 (punishment for a male adult marrying a child) and 2 (punishment for solemnizing a child marriage) of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and presented them to a magistrate who placed them in correctional custody.
