The Thuraiyur-Perambalur Road widening project is part of the Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial corridor project . The 30-kilometer route between Thuraiyur and Perambalur district headquarters will enable the cement industries and shallot farmers in Perambalur and Thuraiyur to market their products .

TRICHY: The highways department completed the Thuraiyur-Perambalur Road widening project, which is part of the Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial corridor project (CKICP), for Rs 132 crore. The project was one of 15 major highway initiatives in the state that have been undertaken under CKICP to create road networks for attracting industrial development. The 30-kilometer route between Thuraiyur and Perambalur district headquarters will enable the cement industries and shallot farmers in Perambalur and Thuraiyur to market their products and reach the western districts, including Namakkal.Although the road was steep and narrow, drivers were not using it to avoid accidents.

The work began in early 2021.Two new bypass roads were also completed in Nakkasalem (1.5 kilometers in length) and Kurumbalur (2 kilometers) to escape the congestion in the nearby villages. The highway has been uniformly widened to ten meters. To reach Chennai-Trichy-Madurai NH, the widening road would provide a quick alternative route for Namakkal and Thuraiyur towns.

In addition, tourist destinations such as Pachamalai near Thuraiyur can now be reached from Chennai-Trichy NH via Perambalur.Officials said the rest of the project's proposed length was completed before the deadline, except for a small patch of 350 meters near Perumal Malai and Kodumbalur, which is pending due to land acquisition. For the next five years, CKICP will maintain the track.
