MILAN (Milan): Ferrari announced on Thursday that a new fuel cell facility had been installed at its historic headquarters in Maranello, marking a new step forward for the luxury car maker in striving to be carbon free by 2030.According to a statement issued by the company, the new 1 MegaWatt solid oxide plant, which converts fuel into electricity by electrochemical process without combustion, produces 5% of the energy needed by Ferraris production operations.Last week, The Prancing Horse unveiled its latest business strategy, which aims to make electric and hybrid models 80% of its product portfolio by 2030.Ferrari said the plant, which was constructed by Bloom Energy, would reduce fuel consumption and emissions, with gas requirements reduced by around 20% when compared to combined heat and power cogeneration technologies.
