Trichy: The Trichy corporation has issued notices to the contractors who are halting the completion of the smart cities mission infrastructure projects in the face of public criticism. They have been warned that a postponed completion of the proposals could result in the forfeiture of 20% of their final monetary settlement as penalties.Although Trichy city was chosen for the smart cities mission project in 2017, and approximately 23 proposals were submitted in the initial stage, a few infrastructure improvements were delayed beyond a reasonable deadline.Purathana park on Butterworth road and Thillai Nayagam ghat redevelopment work on Cauvery bank were delayed past the deadline for commissioning.

The only way to see any improvement in the engineering process is to impose a penalty.According to a senior official at Trichy corporation, the contractors have expedited the ongoing civil works in several projects since we sent the warnings. The park work in Srirangam's Science, Technology, and Mathematics (STEM) park has been slowing down. The park's contractor was also required to complete the work in two months or lose a portion of the revenue promised upon completion.

Other contractors were commissioned to carry out the work, but they were also warned.
