Trio in Pune charged with defrauding a Hinjewadi man of $42.2 million

The 50-year-old Hinjewadi man was duped by three men for Rs42.25 lakh . The money was taken in various bank accounts in different cities of Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar .

PUNE: Three men were arrested in Chatushrungi on Thursday for duping a 50-year-old Hinjewadi man for Rs42.25 lakh under the pretense of getting him a petrol pump store between August 4 and 18 last year, according to the police.The complainant owns a parcel of land in Wakad where he wants to run a petrol pump.In August, he looked for a dealership on the internet and applied for one.According to Dada Gaikwad, Chatushrungi police inspector, the complainant received a call from an unknown individual who posed as a petroleum company officer and offered him a fair dealership.

After that, the three demanded that he make various payments as separate charges, and then the complainant continued transferring the sums.According to the officer, the complainant deposited Rs42.25 lakh to the fraudsters in 14 days.The Chatushrungi police have reported a complaint under sections 406 (criminal abuse of trust), 419 (fraud by persona), 420 (fraud) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Information Technology after the preliminary investigation.The money was taken in various bank accounts in different cities of Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar, according to another officer from the Chatushrungi police.
