AGARTALA: To improve disaster management facilities, the Tripura government will introduce at least nine ham radio stations (amateur radio) to enable people to communicate across their localities and exchange information in situations where they are unable to have access to Internet or cell phones.Officials from the state disaster management department said on Friday that nine such radio stations will be established as one of the alternative communication techniques in disaster management.Officials said that the first ham radio station is all set to open in the State Emergency Operations Center in the Secretariat complex soon, and that the remaining eight stations will be operational after obtaining licenses from the ministry of communication, adding that around 1,500 volunteers have already been trained for quick and emergency response.
