Typhoon Mandous: Tirupati Temple grounds are flooded, posing difficulties for visitors

Cyclone Mandous continues to intensify until early morning hours today . Waterlogging makes it difficult for devotees to reach their accommodation facilities .

Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh) India, December 9: On Friday, devotees to Tirupati Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala encountered many difficulties, ranging from hampered darshan to difficulty reaching hotels as heavy rain battered the city under the influence of Cyclone Mandous.Waterlogging occurred in the low lying areas of the Tirumala, including the temple grounds, making it difficult for the devotees, especially elderly and disabled people, to reach their accommodation facilities, according to reports.Notably, Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) sanitation workers are making attempts to drain the rainwater.The vigilance team has also advised the pilgrims to travel cautiously as a result of cyclone Mandous' adverse weather.

Officials also advised the public to check with the relevant airlines in the event of flight cancellations at Chennai Intl Airport on 09.12.2022 due to bad weather.According to officials at Chennai Airport, the National Disaster Response Force team was on standby as Cyclone Mandous continues to intensify until the early morning hours today.The NDRF team in Chennai, Adayar Indra Nagar, has been stationed in a location where they have packed rescue materials to take on-the-ground when needed.According to Sub-Inspector NDRF Sandeep Kumar, once the notification from state officials has been sent, the NDRF team will immediately deploy to the desired location.

Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Kancheepuram are among the areas in the region that are on alert.It is highly likely to maintain its intensity of Severe Cyclonic Storm until early morning today, the 9th of December, before stumbling slowly into a cyclonic storm after that.According to an official statement issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, it would continue to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and the adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts around Mahabalipuram at midnight on December 09th, to early hours of December, with heavy to very heavy rain expected at isolated locations, said the statement.
