U-17 Women's National Football Championship: Bihar defeats Manipur in the quarterfinals thanks to a fortunate late winner

Bihar junior girls knock Manipur out of the U-17 Womens National Football Championship . Arunachal Pradesh defeated Chhattisgarh 1-0 to advance to the semifinals .

Bihar junior girls did a great job in Guwahati on Wednesday to knock five-time champions and high-flying Manipur out of the quarterfinals of the U-17 Womens National Football Championship.Lucky Kumari netted a late winner.Both teams were excited about their chances to advance to the last-four stage of the tournament, despite locking horns on their all-win group league record.In the morning match, the gritty Bihar girls defeated their much-loved opponents in the first quarterfinal of the 2022-23 edition at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (IGAS) as they rallied to defeat the most decorated team in this category 3-2.

In the 35th minute of the afternoon game, Tallo Ana scored the all-important winner.Bihar and Manipur girls showed off an uneven contest earlier this season.Manipur took an early lead when Oinam Babita Devi took the ball in the 15th minute, but their jubilation was shattered when Bihars Shruti Kumari equalized ten minutes later.Both teams took a breather and ended the game at 1-1, but two minutes into the second half, Thingbaijam Sanjita Devi reclaimed the lead for Manipur girls.

Bihar was rewarded for their persistence in the 66th minute of the match by Shabara Khatun, the player of the match, scoring parity for them.With about half an hour remaining, both teams fought hard to find the winner, and Lucky of Bihar scored three minutes from regulation time, owing to the joy of her teammates and coaching staff.Lucky also rose to the top of the scoring charts with 12 goals, along with Kerala girl Shilji Shaji.Former champions Bengal will face Haryana in the morning at IGAS, while Kerala will face Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the afternoon for a spot in the semifinals on Thursday.
