US: San Francisco launches its first drug rehabilitation facility

SoMa RISE Center will be San Francisco's first drug sobering center . Center will be located in the South of Market neighborhood .

San Francisco, United States, September 24 (Xinhua): Mayor London Breed of San Francisco announced on Thursday that the city's first drug sobering center would be located in the South of Market neighborhood, providing a safe indoor environment for people who are intoxicated with opioids, methamphetamines, or other drugs to come out of their bins, rest, stabilize, and be connected to services and programs.SoMa RISE is a component of the city's response to the drug overdose epidemic, aiming to save lives from overdose deaths and reduce public drug use while also focusing on individuals who are homeless or have substance abuse issues.The center will accept up to 20 participants at a time with some flexibility.According to the report, the majority of people receiving treatment are expected to stay for 4 to 12 hours, during which they can recover, stabilize, and use basic facilities such as toilets, showers, beds, and a meal, according to Breed.
