Mumbai: Varavara Rao, a poet-activist accused of the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, was refused bail by a special NIA court in Mumbai on Friday, requiring him to travel to Hyderabad for cataract surgery.Rao, who was arrested on August 28, 2018, from his Hyderabad home, was charged with harassment by the Hyderabad police department.According to his petition, the poet-activist has a cataract in both eyes and requires surgery and therapy.Special Judge RN Rokade dismissed the plea.Meanwhile, another accuser, Mahesh Raut, also requested medical attention.

The conclave was investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 8, 2018.
