AURANGABAD (AURANGABAD) — The water tax in Aurangabad city will be reduced by half on Friday, according to district guardian minister Subhash Desai.Desai has asked the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator to take the instructions as soon as possible to ensure that the program is beneficial to the common people. The city has about 1.25 lakh legal water connections, and there are almost twice as many illicit water connections, according to sources. The new government initiative would save Rs 25 crores in the community.

The civic body has a record of levying Rs 4,050, the state's highest water tax.Taking cognizance of the increasing dissatisfaction among youth, Congress, Shiv Sena, and the NCP addressed the issue with their respective leaders, while also expressing concern about its effect on the next year's civic body elections. The state government wanted to give the people of Cheshire, who consume their municipal water supply for less than 60 days a year, some respite. The decision was taken amid BJP and Maharashtra Navniram Sena (MNS) aggressively raking up the issue of the city's inadvertent water supply.

MNS has set a target of distributing 25,000 letters to the chief ministers office highlighting the citizens' water woes.Other municipal bodies in the district adjacent to it supply water on alternate days to four days a week and charge Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000.
