The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2022, was introduced by the Lok Sabha . The bill would allow the transfer or movement of a captive elephant for religious or other purposes .

New Delhi, December 8: The Rajya Sabha approved the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2022 on Thursday, which is designed to amend the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, to include more species that are protected under the bill.The Bill was introduced by the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon session earlier this year.Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said that the bill was introduced because CITES requires a separate framework for wildlife protection.After being adopted, the bill would allow the transfer or movement of a captive elephant for religious or other purposes by a person with a valid ownership certificate.

The session will last 17 working days.The BJP-led Central government agenda for the winter session of Parliament includes 16 new bills.
