World-Class Passive Fire System Testing Laboratory Opens at IIT Gandhinagar

The Shah Bhogilal Jethalal Laboratory for Passive Fire Systems Testing opened in 2022 . The new lab will help Indian manufacturers in meeting global requirements in designing and manufacturing universally acceptable products .

On December 3, 2022, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) opened the Shah Bhogilal Jethalal Laboratory for Passive Fire Systems Testing.Mukesh Shah, the Managing Partner of Shah Bhogilal Jethalal & Bros. (AAAG India), has generously supported the establishment of this world-class facility. The new lab, which is under the supervision of the Institute for Environmental Engineering at IITGN, will have accreditation from international standards bodies and assist Indian manufacturers in meeting global requirements in designing and manufacturing universally acceptable products, which will increase Make in India's efforts in this sector and increase exports of such products from India. It will also be involved in research and testing for passive fire barriers in order to improve the country's fire safety.

The state-of-the-art facility is equipped to test items such as fire doors, walls, dampers, fire curtains, door handles, horizontal through penetration firestops, and other such items of up to 3x3 meters in size.It will also support industries in developing new products and complying with diverse national and international building regulations, thereby increasing fire safety in high-rise buildings, airports, metro rail, and other infrastructure projects through rigorous inspection of building components. The indigenous construction of the lab equipment makes it more cost-effective, resulting in the improvement of existing product designs and costs for customers. You can also read about IIT Gandhinagar's success since its establishment.

We are gratified that at IITGN, our team, with generous help from Shri Mukeshbhai, will indigenously design a lab of international standards.I am confident that it will continue to assist Indian manufacturers in developing and testing innovative products, as well as boosting Made in India fire safety equipment.Shah Bhogilal Jethalal & Bros, Managing Partner of AAAG India, said, We are proud to partner with IITGN to give a boost to the cause of fire safety by establishing this world-class lab facility, said Mukesh Shah. With the ever-changing use of different materials in residential and industrial applications, strengthening fire safety engineering is the need of the hour to anticipate and be prepared for any type of fire hazard situation.
