The Croatian football federation announced on Tuesday that FIFA had started disciplining proceedings after Croatia supporters targeted Canada goalkeeper Milan Borjan for his ethnic Serb roots during a World Cup group match.According to a federation statement, the investigation was triggered by the defamatory and xenophobic behavior of some Croatian supporters at the match against Canada, as well as the banners with such content.On Sunday, Canada's 4-1 loss to the 2018 finalists ended their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.Fans in Doha insulted Borjan, an ethnic Serb born in Croatia but fled the country as a child, according to Croatian soccer legend Bruno Petkovic.In an interview in April, he said he was not born in Croatia but in the Republika Srpska Krajina, a self-styled rebel Serb group that declared independence four years after his birth.
